I received an email about a month ago about attending a talk at school entitled "Just Around the Corner". Yes, Finn was about to watch a video about puberty at school. I promptly forwarded this highly disturbing email to Mike, Ellen and Susan with an AHHHHHHHHH!!??? attached to it. I, of course, made Mike go to the talk because he's a boy and Finn's a boy and it just made sense. Mike returned from the meeting to report that he just spent time with a bunch of 4th grade mothers asking too many questions about their daughter's periods....
The video was viewed by the unsuspecting 4th Grade class of Ogden Avenue Elementary this past Thursday. Finn and Seamus came home fighting (like they always do) and I asked what happened (like I always do) and Seamus replied that Finn punched him (like he always does) and I asked why (like I always do) and Finn replied that he and best friend, Sean, were discussing a video they saw at school and they didn't want Seamus around. AHHHHHHHHH!?!?
Later on in the evening, the conversation went as follows:
Mom: So, I know you saw a video today.
Finn: Yeah. (calm and cool)
Mom: The parents saw that video too. What was it about?
Finn: Poo-berty (pronounced as such)
Mom: Puberty?
Finn: Yeah. (calm and cool)
Mom: What's that?
Finn: Well!!! It's when you wiener.....!!! I don't know!! (no longer calm and cool)
Mom: Let's call it your penis.
Finn: Ok, when your penis, it's like you are going to pee but you don't have to!!! And you'll get pimples!!!
Mom: And hair and you will smell.
Finn: YES! I didn't want to see any of that. (very quiet)
Mom: Any of what?
Finn: Those pictures on that video.
Mom: Oh. I'm sorry. It happens to everyone Finn, just a different times. I think you have a while, but if you have any questions
blah, blah, blah....parent talk.....blah blah blah
Finn: I'm sad. I don't want pimples.
Mom: I'm sorry. (Hugs while trying not to laugh at him.)
